DAVE NAVARRO Records Guest Appearance On New TOMMY LEE Solo Album
January 13, 2005Former JANE'S ADDICTION/RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS guitarist Dave Navarro recorded a guest appearance on the new Tommy Lee (MÖTLEY CRÜE) solo album on Tuesday (Jan. 11),according to a posting on Navarro's web site. The session, which took place "at this crazy house in the hills with [producer] Scott Humphrey," was described by the guitarist as "really fun stuff."
In a recent interview with Metal Edge magazine, Tommy Lee spoke in greater detail about the upcoming solo album.
"Fuck, it's crazy, dude!" he said. "I believe it's the best fucking record I've ever made in my life… I know it's cliché, everybody says that, but bro, this is it! These are slam-dunk motherfucking hits! We're about three-quarters of the way through — it's like METHODS [OF MAYHEM], but not stylistically. It's collaborations with other artists. I'll probably take out my band for the touring, but I might do something really different… My manager's like, 'Why are you making another record like this? The songs are amazing, but you can't tour it! You can't have these people all tour to sing!' And I was like, 'OK… Good point!' But I think I can pull it off, maybe get everybody to commit for like 10 days, and just do major cities. Everyone would be there, and it would be really rad and different. I've reached out to a lot of different people — Slash, Lenny Kravitz, Dave Grohl, Butch Walker… I wrote this track called 'Good Times', and Butch came in and we collaborated on it, [and] it's killer. Andrew from SOMETHING CORPORATE — I wrote this song called 'Hello Again', and everyone who hears it says, 'That's the one!' I'm strategically trying to get it done to coincide with the NBC show [Tommy's reality show reality series centered on his enrollment in The University of Nebraska-Lincoln], because that's going to have a huge viewership, like 10-million-plus. They haven't confirmed the date yet, but we think sometime around March."
